A THIRSK woman is now in her second week rowing across the Atlantic Ocean in her bid to be the youngest female to complete the epic 3,000 mile journey solo.

Jasmine Harrison led the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge 2020 fleet out of La Gomera, Canaries on December 12 and has already rowed over 300 nautical miles towards Antigua.

She hopes to arrive in February.

Jasmine is rowing her 21ft ocean rowing boat, Argo, under team name Rudderly Mad.

When not rowing she needs to try and eat up to 4,500k calories a day, complete boat maintenance, communications, navigation planning and sleep.

The determined 21-year-old had a tough start when sea-sickness medication made her temporarily blind.

She said: "It was absolutely horrendous but I just carried on rowing anyway."

Now recovered, she is making steady progress and has even been swimming with a pod of dolphins and seen meteor showers. Her journey can be followed on social media under ‘RudderlyMad’.
