A FURTHER 881  people have tested positive for Covid in the North-East and North Yorkshire.

The Government has said a further 521 people have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of today, bringing the UK total to 57,551.

Figures from NHS England show a further 23 people are confirmed to have died with the virus in hospital in the region.

Also as of 9am today, there have been a further 16,022 lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK.

It brings the total number of cases in the UK to 1,589,301.

Gateshead: 7,646 was 7,601– an increase of 45

Middlesbrough: 5,506 was 5,465 – an increase of 41

Newcastle: 15,521 was 15,425– an increase of 96

North Tyneside: 6,622 was 6,556– an increase of 66

North Yorkshire: 13,018 was 12, 956– an increase of 62

Northumberland: 8,237 was 8,149– an increase of 88

Redcar and Cleveland: 4,457 was 4,428– an increase of 29

South Tyneside: 5,589 was 5,549 – an increase of 40

Stockton: 7,438 was 7,334– an increase of 104

Sunderland: 10,826 was 10,773 – an increase of 53
