THE region's biggest shopping centre is remaining open for the second lockdown - and the full list of shops still trading has been revealed.

Although the majority of stores at Gateshead Metrocentre have been forced to shut, dozens are keeping their doors open.

Those stores that are still trading are either offering a click-and-collect service or are allowed to keep trading as they are classed as essential.

Last month, The Northern Echo reported that a new operator for Metrocentre had been found following the collapse of Intu.

Sovereign Centros was confirmed as the new operator as it said it wanted to “inject new life” into the centre and that it had a number of exciting plans in store going forward with a potential £25m available for future investment.
