THE Prime Minister will hold a press conference tonight to mark the first day of England's second lockdown.
Boris Johnson and NHS chief executive Sir Simon Stevens will lead a press conference at 5pm on Thursday to mark the first day of England entering a month-long coronavirus lockdown, Downing Street has confirmed.
Downing Street press conferences have become a norm through the pandemic, with daily briefings that began in March when the UK's coronavirus death toll stood at just 55.
- LOCKDOWN 2: Can I visit family in a care home?
- LOCKDOWN 2: 'We’ll get through it together,' says Captain Tom
- LOCKDOWN 2: How has your business has adapted to Covid?
They were then scrapped on June 23, as lockdown eased.
Mr Johnson's most recent conference, announcing the second England-wide lockdown that came into force today, November 5, was delayed nearly three hours.
ITV cut off the Covid-19 update, which was due to start at 4pm but was pushed back until 6.50pm, for Strictly Come Dancing.
A further 492 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of yesterday, November 4. This brings the UK total to 47,742.
The number of deaths reported on Wednesday is the highest daily figure since May 19, when 500 deaths were reported.
