A PEDESTRIAN was killed after being hit by a car in Northumberland.

It happened at about 8pm on Saturday, on the A189 southbound between Bedlington station and Bebside.

Northumbria Police is appealing for witnesses.

A spokesperson said: "Officers and emergency services attended, but sadly the pedestrian, a 33-year-old male died at the scene.

"His family have been contacted and are being supported by specialist officers at this time.

"An investigation has been launched and a 30-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. She has since been released under investigation.

We're trying to trace anyone who might have been in the area t the time and saw what happened, or have dashcam footage which can help our enquiries. If you were driving on the A189 Spine Road near Bedlington Station and think you can help, please get in touch."
