THE North-East areas that have seen a massive rise in the number of Covid cases in the past week have been revealed as new lockdown restrictions come in today.
Four postcode areas have seen a dramatic rise in cases with each reporting more than 100 new cases in the past seven days.
It comes as new Tier 2 lockdown rules now apply to the entire region, with restrictions continuing on households mixing in 'any' indoor setting, unless in a support bubble.

But Latest Public Health England data has identified the four areas of highest concern as combined they accounted for more than 1,200 of the region's cases last week.
Data, which shows the picture between October 3 and 9, reported by October 11, has identified Durham City as seeing the largest spike in cases with 512 reported.

Meanwhile, three main postcode areas in and around Newcastle City Centre have also reported extremely high numbers of new cases.
In the city, the City Centre & Arthur's Hill area has reported 335 new cases, Shieldfield & Heaton Park has reported 197 and Nunsmoor has reported 157 new cases in the past week.

Other parts of the region have been flagged up as potential Covid-19 hotspots, showing areas where the number of new cases are significantly higher than in surrounding areas.
