A GROUP of young volunteers have launched a project to help other young people who may be worrying about the future during these uncertain times.

Young volunteers from Youthwatch Darlington have launched an awareness project aimed at secondary school and college students.

Due to coronavirus some young people have changed their plans completely or some young people may be worried about what their future holds.

Jemma Austin, senior volunteer and outreach coordinator at Healthwatch Darlington, said: “This awareness raising project aims to help young people in Darlington who may be worrying about the months ahead and unsure about their future.

“We hope that this offers young people reassurance and draws attention to some of the fantastic services that are available top help.

“It’s been a pleasure watching our young volunteers make this project and what’s more, they did this from their own homes under unusual circumstances.

We think it’s a fantastic example of how young people can make a difference in their local area.”

Jade Kirk, Youthwatch Darlington volunteer, said: “It’s difficult enough to make decisions on your future when young, doing so now in the current situation is making it even harder.

“Being given the opportunity to speak about my own experience in hopes of giving others who are experiencing a similar situation advice is wonderful.”

Amy Adams, Youthwatch Darlington volunteer said: “This project was quite exciting, I had a lot fun helping with the podcast and making the posters for the podcast. There are obviously lots of things to worry about when it comes to the young people of Darlington.

“I resonate a lot with that, I know how frustrating it can be, thinking there isn’t any support and whatnot, and believe me, it sucks. Thankfully, Youthwatch Darlington does what they can, we all do what we can, to bring a lot of things forward."

Jessica Mather, Youthwatch Darlington volunteer, said: “I think our new project is important for students and to be honest people of any age. Not knowing what you want to do in the future can feel worrying and make you feel incredibly scared when everyone around you seems to have their life figured out.

“But what’s important to remember is that things happen, peoples interests and likes change so can someone have their life completely planned out?”

Emily West, Youthwatch Darlington volunteer, said: “It is imperative that at all times you choose a path that excites you. The world today is very different to that of our parents; a career isn’t for life, and your choices at age 18 do not define your future.”
