A DARLINGTON primary school has confirmed a parent has tested positive for coronavirus.

High Coniscliffe CE Primary School in Ulnaby Lane sent a letter to parents on Wednesday (September 23) confirming a parent of a child in the school has Covid-19.

The letter was sent to one class within the school.

The class has been sent home to self isolate, however the rest of the school remains open.

The letter, sent by the executive headteacher and the head of school, said: "We have been advised that there has been a confirmed case of COVID-19 of a parent of a child in your child’s class.

"Public Health advised us to identify which children and staff have been in close contact with the affected family. In line with the national guidance we recommend that your child now stays at home and self isolate until Friday 2nd October.

"Your child must not go to school or any public areas: your child must remain at home. They can return to school on Monday 5th October.

"We are asking you to do this to reduce the further spread of COVID-19 to others in the community. If you need support with isolation, please contact your local Council."

Wendy Aitken, executive headteacher, said: "We took advice as given from Public Health which is a class needing to self isolate. It's not a child but a parent who hadn't been self isolating - which was out of our control."
