Road closed as 'suspicious item' reported near Darlington church
A SUSPICIOUS item has been reported near a church in Darlington today.
Police received a report of a suspicious item near St Andrew’s Church, Darlington, at around 10.25am this morning, Friday, September 18.
As a precaution, officers closed Haughton Road while inquiries are carried out.
Explosives Ordnance Disposal attended to examine the item, and the item was disposed of at around 2.10pm.
It has now however reopened.
A spokesperson for Durham Police said: “An investigation will now be carried out, however our preliminary enquiries suggest that the item posed no risk to the public.”
