PUB-GOERS who visited Consett and District Working Men's Club last weekend are being asked to self-isolate after a staff member tested positive for Covid.
In a statement, published on social media, the pub said: “As you are aware when we found out that a member of staff reported they had tested positive for Covid-19 we contacted PHE /NHS for guidance. With this being a unknown threat to our members we took the best decision and closed the club to protect our staff and members.
“As you can image it has been a worrying time for ourselves and our members knowing what this can to our friends and the local community, we have taken small steps and proceed with caution at every stage and hopefully we will see you all soon.”
Durham County Council are advising anyone who visited the club on Friday, September 4 or Saturday, September 5, to self-isolate.
The club is closed and the council is working with Public Health England to reach people who were there on those dates.
Last month, The Northern Echo reported four clubs in Stanley closed following positive Covid tests.
The Phoenix Club, The Ball Alley, East Stanley Working Men’s Club and Stanley Empire Working Men’s Club, all shut.
The cases prompted an urgent plea to those living in the Stanley area to stop the spread.
Last month, County Durham’s director of public health, Amanda Healy, said: "It is vital to remember that the power to protect our loved ones, friends and neighbours lies in all of our hands. If we all follow the simple steps of Hands, Face, Space – washing our hands often for 20 seconds, covering our face in public buildings and staying two metres apart when possible – then we will all be doing out bit to halt the spread of this virus."
