SEVERAL more venues including a hair salon have closed across the North-East after positive Covid-19 tests.

Venue bosses are advising those who were displaying symptoms to self-isolate and have told them to expect a call from NHS Test and Trace if affected.

Last night, The Scullery Pier Point in Roker confirmed a customer had tested positive for Covid-19 after a visit on Friday, September 4.

They said the restaurant would remain closed until later in the week to allow for a full deep clean.

This comes as Sunderland and South Tyneside both recorded 51, and 13, Covid-19 cases respectively, in one day - bringing the total number of cases across both areas to 3,071 since the outbreak began.

Sunderland’s Director of Public Health, said: "It’s really important that everyone acts responsibly and follows the public health guidance when outside of the home if we are to keep our community safe.

"The best way to help protect our families, friends and neighbours is to follow the basic rules of Hands, Face, Space – wash your hands for 20 seconds often, cover your face in public, stay 2 metres apart and stay at home if you have symptoms or are waiting for Covid test results."
