A SHARK has been 'adopted' on behalf of residents at a care home.
Staff and residents at Hazelgrove Court Care Home, Saltburn-by-the-Sea, made headlines in the Northern Echo on August 21 after they celebrated the Discovery Channel’s 32nd annual Shark Week with a variety of marine-themed activities.
This included included watching real sharks on webcam live streams, taking a virtual ride on a Jaws theme park ride and raising money for the Marine Conservation Society’s Save our Sharks campaign.
After reading the article a reader, who wished to remain anonymous, decided to adopt a shark from Sharks Trust on behalf of Hazlegrove Court residents.
A certificate of adoption was sent to the care home in the post.
Sharon Lewis, activities coordinator at Hazelgrove Court Care Home, said: “We’d just like to say thank you to the anonymous and generous Northern Echo reader.
“It is a lovely gift and the residents are looking forward to receiving regular updates from the Shark Trust."
