The Northern Echo has opened an online book of condolence for people to leave their tributes to Anas El-Rafai.

The Darlington 15-year-old died on Monday after getting into difficulty in the River Tees.

The very definition of a hero, his family can be truly proud.. to step up in the heat of the moment and do what he did, at 15! takes real courage. Hope his brother goes on to make a success of his life and the family can in time find peace.
