INTREPID fundraisers completed a 162-mile cycle ride a cross four counties at the weekend to raise money for a North-East charity.

The 19 riders took part in Ride Infinity, which aims to raise £10,000 for the North East Autism Society (NEAS).

They set off from the charity’s headquarters, in Chester-le-Street, on Saturday, en route to Penrith where they stayed overnight before cycling back in a route that formed the shape of the charity’s infinity loop logo.

The riders included NEAS chief executive John Phillipson who said: “It’s been a tough time for all charities so we’re really grateful to everyone taking part, as well as the sponsors, for supporting us in this way.”

Tony Smith took part after having the top of his hair shaved off in return for a generous donation from his employer, events management company Newsubstance.

“I stupidly announced that whoever gave me the biggest donation could choose my hair style for the ride,” said Tony.

The ride was sponsored by Gama Systems, BGL, Leathers, Cleardata, Activa, and Challenge Northumberland.
