AN ARTIST has used time in lockdown to create a new collection of paintings.
John Hunter, from Grinton, was due to show his work at the Guild of Aviation Artists annual exhibition, which was to have been held at the Mall Galleries in July, but was cancelled due to coronavirus.
Instead Mr Hunter took on several art commissions. The first commission, ‘Uncle Jack’s pipe’, Mr Hunter recreated from a old faded photograph with much of the image missing. This meant he had to ‘re-assemble and re-imagine’ this along with other pictures to create the final image.
“One of my choir singers asked for a painting which featured one of her husband’s large scale Radio Controlled models. To enhance, we decided to include a portrait of Yorkshire aviation pioneer Robert Blackburn who designed and flew the original Balckburn D1,” said Mr Hunter.
The last of the commissions, to celebrate a 100th birthday, featured the commissioner’s father as the focus.
