A CYCLIST has died after a collision on Friday.

The crash on the A689 eastbound between Wynyard and Sedgefield involved a white Ford Fiesta, black Audi TT and a bicycle. 

The cyclist, a 49-year-old man, received serious injuries and later died at James Cook Hospital, in Middlesbrough.

A 22-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of driving offences and are assisting police with their enquiries.

Police are appealing for information about the crash, which happened at about 4.10pm. 

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dash cam footage which may assist is asked to contact Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit on 101, reference 119601.

A spokeperson for Cleveland Police said: "Prior to the collision the white Ford Fiesta and the black Audi TT vehicles were sighted leaving the A1 so police are also requesting any information on the vehicles prior to 4.10pm."
