Kier Community Initiative Project

We have already undertaken a range of activities to provide benefits to the local area including support for community events, employment opportunities, investment in the local economy and support to local charities.

We are launching our ‘Kier Community Initiative Project'. This initiative will help us to engage further with the community to ensure everyone can in some way be part of the scheme and assist in creating a lasting memory and legacy together within Durham’s city centre.

The launch of this competition will see ideas and proposals from the local community.

The Criteria

1. The project must be capable of being completed by the end of August 2021.

2. The project can be large or small as long as it fits all aspects of the criteria provided. It is not limited in its scope as long as it considers the environment it sits within and has considered how it may be maintained in the future.

3. The location of the proposed initiative will be within the City itself, ideally within one mile of the location of the new headquarters.

4. We need to understand who owns the land/buildings the proposed initiative would relate to and ensure we are able to obtain their agreement to the proposals. Kier will assist this process as part of our role.

5. Inevitably the project will come at a cost which will be met by Kier within the budget set out. We have already received donations of time, resources and offers of materials from the Kier team, our consultants and supply chain. In addition, Kier will make available a capital sum of £5,000. Given the donations of support this will swell the project budget in real terms to five or ten times this figure.
