AFTER having their weddings cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak, seven Darlington couples tied the knot in the town this weekend.

Saturday and Sunday, June 11 and 12, respectively, now marks the anniversary of seven couples who got married in Darlington register office – taking the first opportunity they could since their big days were cancelled.

The Town Hall's register office is just one of three rooms prospective husbands and wives can say 'I do' in however, due to social distancing, allows only the couple being married and two witnesses to attend.

The room is also available to Darlington residents only.

Other venues allow for a larger attendance as long as coronavirus restrictions are adhered to.

For example, the council chamber allows the couple being married, 16 guests and one photographer. A guest includes any children aged one or over.

Darlington Council said: "Congratulations to Wayne and Gina; Edward and Alison; Craig and Yvonne; Ian and Wendy; Brian and Cindy; Anthony and Claire; Jennifer and Hayley."

Weddings, which includes marriages and civil partnerships, were given the green light on June 23, commencing on July 4.

The guidance on weddings applies across England, while devolved nations have their own rules.
