YOU'LL be able to travel to Amsterdam by ferry from next week as DFDS confirms it will restart sailing following months of suspended service.
The ferry operator has confirmed that services between North Shields and Ijmuiden will resume on Thursday (July 16).
DFDS says it has also introduced a range of safety measures on its two ferries in line with government guidance on Covid-19.
All sailings had been cancelled in March following the coronavirus outbreak, but DFDS said it was resuming services as Holland is included in new travel rules.
Kasper Moos, head of short routes and passenger for DFDS, said: “We welcome the government’s announcement that travel restrictions will be removed and that holidaymakers will be able to explore Continental destinations this summer.
"Our teams have been working hard to prepare our ships to restart sailings and we’re really looking forward to welcoming passengers back onboard our services next week.”
The safety measures
In anticipation of the announcement, DFDS says it has prepared its cruise ferries for the new world of socially distanced travel.
Passenger capacity on the route will be reduced to maximise the space available onboard and ensure that travellers can comply with government guidance.
Additionally, early and staggered boarding and disembarkation procedures will be in place.
Crew will wear protective equipment and passengers are advised to wear face coverings for embarkation and disembarkation.
Tables in restaurant areas have been spaced apart and passengers will be required to pre-book meals.
Passengers will also not be permitted to bring their own food and drink onboard, DFDS confirmed.
