THE Northern Echo has launched a weekly feature in which we present a bouquet of flowers to an individual or group going the extra mile in their community.

The recipient of this week’s bouquet of the week is Philippa Rayner, who is the event director of Darlington’s junior parkrun.

Philippa was nominated by Emma Joyeux, who said: “Although there is a huge team of volunteers behind the junior parkrun event each week, Pip has been one of the main drivers in setting it up, ensuring enough volunteers, training volunteers and co-ordinating most of all the ‘back office’ administration in terms of risk assessments, results processing, email correspondence etc.

“She volunteers most weeks, often as run director and is usually setting up the course at 8am most Sunday mornings.

“She is incredibly passionate about parkrun and has worked very hard to ensure Darlington has a functioning and sustainable event available to the children to encourage not only physical activity but promote a sense of community to our future generation.”
