RESIDENTS are on track to get active as a sports complex reopens some facilities after three months.

Eastbourne Sports Complex in Darlington was forced to close its doors in May due to the Covid-19 outbreak, but will now be reopening under social distancing measures.

Members from Darlington Harriers running club will now be able to get back into training as the centre eight lane all-weather track opens up.

Slots are limited, with a maximum of 6 runners at any one time, to comply with new guidelines and payment must be contactless.

The track is open to all runners, whether or not they are in a club.

Times are available Tuesday – Friday 10am–5pm and on Wednesday evenings 5-8pm.

Bowlers are now able to enjoy their hobby as the bowling green is now open 5 days a week for club users and potential new members. Bowlers are following social distancing guidelines and following other health and safety rules to prevent transmission of the virus.

Football clubs are also now able to book grass pitches on the site and the all-weather pitch will be open for clubs and general hire.

Councillor Kevin Nicholson, Darlington Borough Council’s Cabinet member for health and housing said: “As lockdown eases it is great to see that many people can now get back to doing what they love.

"Taking part in sports, keeping active and being part of a club are all part of what keeps us healthy and feeling happy.

“We are lucky to have this great facility on our doorstep where we can offer a great mix of outdoor activities.

"The Move More team at Eastbourne has worked incredibly hard to change how they operate and to make sure they can provide the facilities in a safe way for everyone.

“It is hoped that they will be able to offer extra activities and classes very soon to help even more people get back to doing the things they enjoy."

During lockdown the team at Eastbourne have been continuing to encourage young people to remain active by setting a number of challenges which could be completed at home or outside in public spaces, as part of Tees Valley Sport's 'School Games regional competition.

The project was run through social media and saw Darlington School Project take part as a team, who were supported by the centre.

To use any of the sports facilities you will need to book a slot directly with Eastbourne Sports Complex centre on 01325 405400 or via their social media.
