After a few months in lockdown, we have relaunched our Bouquet of the Week feature and the first recipient is Sarah Robson, of Darlington.

Sarah was nominated by friend Charlotte Yarrow, also from Darlington.

Charlotte said: “Sarah is amazing. She has been through so much. Her son, Jack, who is now 13, was born with a congenital heart defect and has undergone numerous operations, but after developing a number of health complications he then had to have a heart transplant last year, when he was aged 12.

“All through this Sarah has stayed strong and has been campaigning to encourage people and children to sign up as organ donors.

“Even though she had all the challenges with Jack, she still tried to help thousands of other children. She never asks anything for herself and I just want her to realise how special she is.”

Sarah said she was overwhelmed by the gift. She said: “What happened with Jack is every mum’s worst nightmare. You’re on a rollercoaster and you don’t know when you’re going to get off or how it will end.

“Organ donation is a light in a dark place, a hope for our tomorrows, the gift of life from a stranger, it’s so special and precious.”
