A TEN-YEAR-OLD who raised hundreds of pounds for a baby hospice and is “obsessed” with police was invited to his local police station to meet officers as a thank you.

Cleveland Police officers invited Louie Davies, from Guisborough, to meet officers after he gave up sweets and chocolate for four weeks and walked 45 miles to raise £660 for local hospice Zoe’s Place, which provides palliative, respite and end of life care to babies and infants.

Louie’s efforts were his response to an appeal by Zoe’s Place for people to help them with their costs by taking part in the 2.6 challenge, which encourages people to take part in 2.6 mile walks to raise funds.

The charity has suffered financial difficulty recently due to loss of income during the coronavirus pandemic.

As a result, Louie, who hopes to be a policeman, was invited to look around a police car and their policing equipment at Guisborough Police Station.

Louie’s mum, Clair Davies, said: “Louie has been so excited to come and meet police officers today in Guisborough. It’s all he has talked about for days.

“Louie is a very kind little boy with a sensitive soul. He always wants to help others, which is why he did the fundraising for Zoe’s Place. It’s lovely that the police got in touch with us to organise this treat for him for his fundraising efforts.”

Inspector Neil Deluce said: “Louie did a very kind thing for his local community by fundraising for Zoe’s Place. When we heard that Louie wanted to become a policeman and that he loves everything to do with police, we thought it would be a nice idea to invite him here and show him around and explain what we do. Hopefully we have a recruit in the making and we hope he enjoyed the trip.”
