A FURTHER five people have died in hospitals across the region after testing positive for coronavirus.

Figures published on Thursday afternoon confirmed five deaths in hospitals in the North East and North Yorkshire.

It comes as nationally a further 62 people died after testing positive for the virus, the figure yesterday was 77.

A spokesperson for NHS England said: "A further 62 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 28,175."

The total number of patient deaths recorded by each trust - as of 2pm on Thursday, June 18:

County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust - 247 was 246 

Gateshead Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust –  134 no change

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust – 199 no change

North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust – 138 was 137

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – 251 was 250

South Tyneside & Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust – 324 no change

Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - 116 was 115 

York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – 213 no change

Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust - 79 was 78 

Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (mental health) –  7 no change 

Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (mental health) – 7 no change

Total: 1,715 was 1,710 the day before
