A CONVICTED child abuser has pleaded guilty to another offence on a young girl.

Peter Hughes made the confession when he appeared at Teesside Crown Court via a videolink to Doncaster prison.

The 70-year-old is serving a five year and eight month sentence after admitting one charge of sexual assault, four of indecent assault and two of indecency with a child in 2017.

Yesterday, he pleaded guilty to a single charge of sexual assault by penetration which took place between January 9, 2011 and January 8, 2014, on a girl aged under ten.

The court heard how Hughes is due to be released from prison in October this year and will be sentenced for the latest offence next week.

Judge Paul Watson QC said: "You have pleaded guilty on this matter and I understand you want to be sentenced for this as soon as possible but I'm not in a position to do that today."

The judge in 2017 heard how Hughes sexually assaulted one underage girl almost four decades ago, when he was in his 30s, by kissing her, touching her and getting her to touch him.

He also admitted sexually assaulting another young girl in 2016 year, telling her it would be a secret.

Hughes, formerly of Coatham Road, Redcar, will be sentenced via videolink at Teesside Crown Court on Wednesday, June 10.
