KIRKLEATHAM Museum near Redcar is running a weekly online presentation in its series of Tuesday Talks.

The talks have proved so successful that the museum management have extended the talks through to the end of July. Originally the talks were planned to scale back to fortnightly events during June and July, in anticipation of the Covid-19 restrictions being relaxed and the museum re-opening for the summer.

Additional talks have been added to the programme so that the talks can continue on a weekly schedule until the summer break in August.

Weekly audience numbers have soared from the initial 25 to an average of over 60 attendees each week. On a couple of occasions there have been over 80 in the audience.

A spokesman for the museum said: "Naturally, we are delighted, the response far exceeds anything we might have expected."

Next week's talk is at 2pm on Tuesday, June 9 and features Chris Twigg talking about East Cleveland's ironstone mining industry.

Topics in the coming weeks include Gertrude Bell - a woman in a man's world.
