A FURTHER seven people have died in hospitals across the North-East and North Yorkshire after testing positive for coronavirus.

This bring's the region's recorded coronavirus death toll up to 1,613 as of 5pm on Friday, May 29.

Nationally, NHS England has announced 146 new deaths of people who tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 26,529.

According to the latest available figures, the total number of patient deaths recorded by each NHS Trust in our region are: 

County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust – 230 was 229

Gateshead Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust – 129 no change

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust – 190 no change 

North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust – 119 was 116

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust –  231 was 229 

South Tyneside & Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust - 318 no change

Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – 112 no change

York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – 206 was 205

Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust –  64 no change

Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (mental health) –  7 no change 

Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (mental health) – 7 no change
