HOSPITALS in our region have recorded a further 26 coronavirus patient deaths as a further 416 patients have died across the UK.

Latest figures published on Tuesday afternoon confirmed a total of 1,443 coronavirus patients had died in hospitals in the North-East and North Yorkshire.

Nationally, the figures are significantly higher than what was reported yesterday - with 209 deaths in England reported on Monday.

A spokesperson for NHS England said: "A further 350 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 23,708.

"Patients were aged between 25 and 101 years old.  22 of the 350 patients (aged between 30 and 100 years old) had no known underlying health condition.  Their families have been informed."

The total number of patient deaths recorded by each trust as of 5pm on Monday, May 11 are:

Gateshead Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust – 123 was 122

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust – 171 was 168 

North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust - 90 was 88

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – 210 was 204

South Tyneside & Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust – 299 

Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – 102

York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – 180 was 166

Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust – 51

Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (mental health) - 7

Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Trust (mental health) - 7 was 6
