A ROUTINE patrol on the A1 led to police discovering suspected cannabis worth thousands of pounds.
Officers stopped a grey VW Passat when they were patrolling near Scotch Corner on Monday, checking people were adhering to lockdown measures.
Whilst talking to the driver, the officers noticed a strong smell of cannabis coming from the car.
A search of the vehicle revealed several shopping bags full of the drug, with a street value of tens of thousands of pounds.
The car was also seized for being uninsured. The 25-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis, and no insurance.
He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
