HOSPITALS across the North-East and North Yorkshire have reported that a further 41 patients have died after testing positive for coronavirus.

Latest figures published on Wednesday afternoon reveal a total of 941 Covid-19 patients across our region have now died.

It comes as a further 665 new patient deaths across England were reported by NHS England overnight.

A spokesperson for NHS England said: "A further 665 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 16,272.

Patients were aged between 26 and 102 years old.  26 of the 665 patients (aged between 48 and 95 years old) had no known underlying health condition. Their families have been informed."

In our region, the South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust has recorded the highest number of patient deaths since the outbreak began.

This is continued to be closely followed by the South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs sites including the James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough and The Friarage in Northallerton.

As of 5pm on Tuesday (April 21), the total number of patient deaths recorded by each trust are:

Gateshead Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust -84 was 81

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust - 115 was 112

North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust - 55

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - 151 was 141

South Tyneside & Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust - 208 was 197

Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - 72 was 70

York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - 86 was 80

Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust - 36 was 34

Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (mental health) - 5

Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (mental health) - 5 

Total: 941 was 900 the day before.
