THE country has seen its biggest day-on-day rise in coronavirus patient deaths as a further 828 have been reported in the past day - bringing the total to 6,843 in England.
In the North-East and North Yorkshire, a further 56 patients have died after testing positive for COVID-19, NHS England this afternoon confirmed.
A spokesperson for NHS England said: "Patients were aged between 22 and 103 years old. Forty six of the 828 patients - aged between 35 and 96 years old - had no known underlying health condition. Their families have been informed."
It comes as the Department of Health say there are now 2,493 confirmed COVID-19 cases across the region - with Newcastle, County Durham and Sunderland recording the highest cases.
As of Tuesday (April 7), the total number of patient deaths recorded by each trust are:

- Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - 34
- York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - 29
- Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust - 16
- Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (mental health) - 2
- Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (mental health) - 1
