A MAN who pushed an 81-year-old to the ground before robbing £110 cash from him has appeared at court.
Elroy David McArthur appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court today (Tuesday, March 24) where he admitted carrying out the attack on the morning of Monday, March 23.
The court heard that the victim had just withdrawn his pension from a cash point at Sainsbury’s, on Corporation Road, in Darlington, when McArthur approached him and pushed him over.
John Garside, prosecuting, said the defendant made off from the scene with £110 in a brown wallet which police later found concealed in his underwear.
Nick Woodhouse, mitigating, said his client was formerly a porter at a five star hotel until an injury had caused him to stop working.
McArthur, of Stewart Street, Darlington, pleaded guilty to one charge of robbery.
He has 33 previous convictions for 66 offences.
The 42-year-old was remanded into custody pending a hearing at Teesside Crown Court on April 21.
