FIREFIGHTERS tonight extinguished a fire in two bins which had been placed against the back of a building in the Whessoe Road area of Darlington.
A spokesperson for the County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service, said: "We received a call at 7.20pm reporting a fire involving two large bins at the back of a building.
"We had two appliances attend the scene. Two large bins containing wooden pallets and cardboard, were well alight. Two hose reels were used to extinguish the fire.
"The fire melted the guttering of the building, but firefighters were able to prevent it spreading to the roof. It they had not arrived when they did it could potentially have spread to the building."
There were no details of the cause of the fire.
