A REDCAR writer, producer and actor is filming a new sitcom which will be shot and feature actors exclusively from the town and the North-East.

This will be Teresa Taylor’s first film after previously working in law as a barrister.

“I’m from Redcar and wanted to make sure we got some strong visuals of Redcar,” she said.

The sitcom, called Briefs, is about the legal profession and will be set in and around a solicitor’s office in the town.

Local band No Time For Reason have provided an opening theme tune for the series.

Teresa, who now lives in Osmotherley in North Yorkshire, said: “It is made up of a cast and crew from the North East – northern talent.”

As well as writing and producing the sitcom, Teresa also has an acting role, along with Rob Kirtley who plays Gordon Turton-Swallows, Billy Doherty who is best known for appearing in Coronation Street as Mark Thackeray, Andy Power Tate, Alexandra De Villeay and David French.

The sitcom aims to be a laugh out loud comedy with drama and a heartbeat, full of characters with stories that intertwine with each other.

It will be filmed at locations and local beauty spots around the seaside town.

Teresa said: “Our aim is to bring Redcar to people’s attention on a national scale through the use of strong visuals, and to showcase talent in the North and North-East of England with a cast of northern actors and York based production company, Runestone Pictures.”

All of the characters have their own storylines that run through the series.

“Briefs is the first ever script I’ve written,” Teresa said. “It is ten years in the making, I’ve had all the characters floating around for ten years, but I put pen to paper last year.”

The programme is being created by Runestone Pictures based in North Yorkshire, which was founded in 2014 by Diana Brooks.

“I sent the scripts off to them, literally within 48 hours, they got back to me and said they wanted to produce the series,” Teresa said. “That’s how it started.”

Teresa, who is a mum of two, added: “Helen, which is my character who I play, finds herself in a place where she doesn’t know what she’s let herself in for.”

Not forgetting cast member Herbie... the goldfish who has a starring role.

“The characters are really relatable,” Teresa said.

Teresa compares the series to the IT crowd and Fawlty Towers – a modern and old feel.

“I’ve drawn from real-life experiences and I’ve tried to keep it personal, which helped me to invest in the character,” Teresa said. “I wanted to give back to Redcar because it gave me so much growing up.”

Redcar solicitors Richard J Knaggs & Co. have agreed to allow the series to be filmed on their premises during weekends – the solicitors is still operational during week days.

“They very kindly let us have their office for filming which is amazing,” Teresa said. “The local support I’ve got to say has been outstanding – it’s meant so much, it’s been overwhelming.”

Teresa is getting the word out about the sitcom via social media channels.

The programme is in pre-production.
