BOOKING is open for the 2020 National Trust Durham Coast half marathon.

The marathon takes place on Sunday June 28, with hardy contenders following a scenic and challenging 13.1 mile route along the coast from Seaham to Crimdon Dene.

The race has become notorious for a series of ascents and descents featuring steep flights of steps.

All profits from the half marathon will go directly to fund work caring for the local coast and countryside including wildflower meadows and wooded denes. In this anniversary year, runners can also take up the trust’s 125 challenge and raise extra funds to look after the landscape and wildlife of the Durham Coast. For a fundraising pack and free running vest email sports@nationaltrust.org.uk

The route will be clearly marked, with regular water stations to keep runners hydrated. Volunteer marshals are key to ensuring the event runs smoothly.

All runners will receive a t-shirt and medal as well as free refreshments at the finish line. Prizes will be awarded to the first three men and women, and winners in each age category.

Entry is £28 per person and includes transfer from the finish. To book a place, visit www.sientries.co.uk.
