A WELL-travelled TV star will be stopping in County Durham to show audiences his holiday snaps.

Writer and broadcaster Dom Joly will take to the stage at the Gala Theatre, in Durham, at 7.30pm on Tuesday, to share stories of his exploits to dangerous travel spots such as North Korea, Cambodia, Syria and Chernobyl.

Armed with a trusty slideshow of holiday photos, audiences can expect dramatic and comedic tales of Dom’s adventures in ‘The Danger Zone’ as he humorously recounts his journeys to the most unusual places on the planet.

Dom also goes back to his childhood home in the Lebanon - where he famously went to school with Osama Bin Laden - and shares his memories growing up in a part comedy, part travelogue, solo stand-up show.

The tour also coincides with the impending publication of Dom’s new book, The Hezbollah Hiking Club, in which a boozy afternoon at Lord’s Cricket Ground led to himself and two pals hiking across the Lebanon, from the Israeli border to the Syrian border.

Dom has remained enormously popular with audiences since his pioneering Channel 4 show, Trigger Happy TV, which was sold to 70 countries, while his three travel books have brought him fans on an even wider scale.

Dom is one of many comedy acts performing at the Gala this spring, with Phil Wang, Tom Stade, Comedy Fest by The Durham Revue and the Dad’s Army Radio show all set to take to the stage.

Robin Byers, Gala Theatre manager, said: “Dom Jolly has always been a popular hit with audiences thanks to his sketches, stories and comedic antics in broadcast and in writing. With a Dave Gorman-esque assemblage of clips, holiday snaps, funny stories and more, comedy-lovers won’t want to miss this night of quality stand-up.”

There will be a meet-and-greet after the show where he will sign copies of his latest book.

Tickets are priced at £18 and can be bought from Gala Theatre’s Box Office.
