A WOMAN was cut free from a car after a serious collision.
Police closed Genesis Way in Consett after the crash just after 12pm.
She was freed by a team from County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service.
A spokeswoman said: “We received the call at 12.37pm this afternoon, and three appliances attended.
“One from Consett, another from High Handenhold, and also the special rescue unit from Bishop Auckland.
“A woman was rescued from the vehicle by our crews using specialist equipment, and has been transported to the hospital by the ambulance service.”
A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 12.06pm to reports of a one vehicle road traffic collision on the corner of Fenwick Way in Consett.
“We dispatched a double crewed ambulance and transported a female patient to the University Hospital North Durham.”
Durham Police closed Genesis Way from Park Road through to the Tesco mini roundabout and described the accident as ‘serious’.
