DETECTIVES are investigating after a man was hospitalised following a serious assault outside a pub.
Officers were called to the Old Post Office on Shields Road in Byker, shortly after 11.30pm on Friday, after a man was knocked unconscious.
It is believed the victim, a 23-year-old male, had been involved in a disturbance with a group of men.
He was taken to hospital with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.
Detective Inspector Jonathan May said: “This is a serious assault which has resulted in a young man being hospitalised.
“We would encourage anyone who was in the pub that night or in the area around the time of this incident to come forward to help us build a picture of what happened.”
