THE owner of a hair salon on Teesside has been left counting the costs after her premises was ransacked and hundreds of pounds worth of equipment was stolen.

Yvonne Couhig, owner of The Bespoke Experience Hair Salon on Dyke Road in Redcar, told The Northern Echo that she has been left furious since the incident on Sunday (February 9).

Ms Couhig, who moved her premises to Redcar from Grangetown near Middlesbrough two-years-ago, said a thief pictured on CCTV at around 5.55am made off with five laptops and caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage.

The Northern Echo:

She said: "The first incident happened on Thursday morning when my staff member opened up to find the window broken in – at first I thought it had been kids on their scooters."

Ms Couhig said it was only apparent that someone had previously tried to break into the premises after Sunday's incident.

She said: "On Sunday morning, my staff member opened up at 9.30am to find the window kicked in.

The Northern Echo:

"We found five training laptops stolen, they'd tried to take our big screen but couldn't so they just smashed it."

Among the stolen items, two Asus, two Toshiba and one HP laptop were stolen while Ms Couhig now faces a £400 cost to replace the TV, and £100 for a replacement window.

She said: "I'm just so angry - but I've had a huge amount of support from other businesses and other people.

"People have been saying 'you've done a damn' lot for this area, with our training and apprenticeships.

"Customers have said you've made the place beautiful and this is what people do."
