VISITORS to a popular Newcastle museum have the chance to experience the thrill of the cockpit in a new RAF Red Arrows flight simulator.

The Discovery Museum is to host the state-of-the-art red capsule that gives visitors an immersive ride over the glorious landscape of the Cyprus, with high definition images, surround sound, dynamic motion and a pilot’s commentary on the manoeuvres.

Carolyn Ball, manager of Discovery Museum said: “The RAF Red Arrow flight simulator is an exciting new addition for Discovery Museum.

"It’s fantastic to introduce this in the year the Great North Run celebrates its 40th anniversary as The Red Arrow displays for this event are legendary.”

The video is the first time a Red Arrow pilots view has been captured on film. Ben Murphy, Red Leader at the time, said the film "is as close as you will get to being on the back seat".

Discovery Museum is open weekdays 10am to 4pm, weekends 11am to 4pm and closed on Bank Holidays; free entry, donations welcome.

The ride costs £3.50 per person and a minimum height restriction of 1.07m applies. Tickets can be bought on the day from the museum’s reception desk on a first-come first-served basis for allocated time-slots.
