A COUPLE who live together in a care home have celebrated their platinum wedding anniversary.
It is 70 years since Tommy and Sadie Gibson were wed at St Michael’s Church in Witton Gilbert.
The pair met at a dance in Langley Park and tied the knot on January 28, 1950, spending most of their lives in Pelton Fell.
Mr Gibson, now 91, worked a miner and a labourer while Mrs Gibson, 88, worked in retail and at Chester-le-Street Hospital.
They had one son, Tommy, who died in February, aged 68, and have four grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren.
Mr Gibson said: “As soon as I saw her I she was the one I wanted to be with.
“She was very beautiful and I am happy I married her and nobody else.”
The couple celebrated on Tuesday with friends and family at St Mary’s Care Home in Chester-le-Street.
Activities coordinator Claire Jukes said: “They are are an inspirational couple and everyone is over the moon that they have made it this far.
“They have enjoyed their day, got up for a dance to the entertainment and kept going in for a little kiss.
“It has been lovely to share it with them.”
Mrs Gibson said: “The secret of a long and happy marriage is letting him think he is the boss.”
