A YOUNG man injured in an early morning collision on the A690 in Durham has died, police have confirmed.
The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries on the eastbound carriageway out of the city between Gilesgate roundabout and Belmont junction, at about 2.25am on Thursday morning.
He was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, in Newcastle, for treatment, after the collision but has since died from his injuries.
The 40-year-old driver of the Vauxhall Antara was not hurt.
The road was closed for several hours but has now been reopened and enquiries are ongoing.
A spokesman from Durham Constabulary said: “We are sorry to report that a 21-year-old man involved in a road traffic collision on the A690 in the early hours of this morning has died.
“His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
“Enquiries are ongoing.”
