A ROAD was closed in Newton Aycliffe after a car overturned in a residential area at the weekend.


A silver Volkswagen Golf ended up on its side in Washington Crescent shortly before 1pm on Saturday.

A witness described hearing a loud bang before going outside to find a the vehicle flipped and another white Toyota with damage to its front driver’s side.

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called at about 1pm to in Washington Crescent, Newton Aycliffe to attend a road traffic collision involving up to three vehicles. One of the vehicles was on its side. 

“We dispatched two Hazardous Area Response Teams. We treated three patients and discharge them at the scene. The were treated for minor injuries.” 

A spokespeson for the County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service said: “We received a call to a two-vehicle accident at about 1.50pm on Saturday. 

“We were contacted by members f the North East Ambulance Service to make a vehicle safe following a possible fuel leak.”

The road was reopened from around 3pm.Durham police have been contacted for a statement.
