A TEENAGER has died after the car she was travelling in collided with a tree.
The 18-year-old was the front seat passenger in a red Ford Fiesta that collided with a tree in Fellside Road, Whickham, Gateshead, at about 6.50pm today.
Fire-fighters cut the roof from the vehicle to free the teenager, who was trapped by her chest and legs.
She was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead where she was pronounced dead at 8.20pm.
The male driver of the car was also cut free by fire-fighters and taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, suffering from leg injuries.
Two rear seat passengers were out of the car when emergency services arrived and were also treated at the hospital for minor injuries.
