AN act of remembrance which is believed to be unusual to Richmond will be held on Saturday (Nov 10).

The annual Service to the Crosses will take place in the Friary Gardens at 11am, when members of the public can lay a small wooden cross bearing the details of a loved one who has died while serving in the armed forces.

The service will be conducted by Canon Richard Cooper, rector of Richmond and a chaplain to the Queen, and attended by town mayor Councillor John Robinson and a bugler. Doves will be released during the service.

The event is organised by the local branch of the Royal British Legion and anyone wishing to lay a cross can contact poppy appeal organiser David Johnson, tel 01748-826452. Mr Johnson will have spare crosses for anyone who wishes to go along.
