A MURDER inquiry is continuing this morning after a man was found dead in a Stockton street.

The man, who had not been formally identified as of last night, is believed to have died of stab wounds on Parliament Street.

Multiple emergency services attended the incident just after 1pm yesterday, and the Great North Air Ambulance landed nearby, but the man is not understood to have been airlifted to hospital.

Cleveland Police said it had launched a 'homicide investigation' and appealed to the public to help with any information.

Forensic officers were on scene and a white tent and cordon were erected on the street, while there were reports of officers inspecting a white van with smashed windows.

The North East Ambulance Service said: 'We were called at 1.19pm to an injured male on Parliament Street in Stockton.

"We dispatched two double-crewed ambulances, a clinical care manager and requested support from the Great North Air Ambulance."
