A CYCLIST died today following an early morning collision with a van.

The 21-year-old was cycling just beyond the A1 flyover on the A6055 between Boroughbridge and Minskip, North Yorkshire, when he collided with a white Mercedes refrigerated box van shortly before 6.25am.

Both had been travelling in the direction of Minskip from Boroughbridge.

The cyclist was taken to Harrogate District Hospital, where he later died. The van driver suffered no serious injuries.

Police are now appealing for any witnesses to come forward. The cyclist was riding a dark-coloured mountain bike, and was wearing dark clothes and a rucksack.
