POLICE in Derwentside have carried out a survey to find out what issues affect people most.

A questionnaire was sent to people identified as having a good knowledge of local issues.

The results identified three priorities for police.

In Stanley, anti-social behaviour, street drinking and off-road motorcycle nuisance were seen as the priorities.

The first two issues came up in Consett with a third issue, speeding motorists.

During the next three months, officers on the neighbourhood beat teams, assisted by their internal and external partners, will look to target those issues.

Inspector Andy McConnell said: "This process has been put in place to identify the issues that affect local people and put in place actions to tackle them."

Over the past three months, Stanley police have made 150 seizures of alcohol and are collating evidence to consider the prosecution of off-licences, which persistently break the law.

Consett police carried out test purchasing operations at off-licences to reduce the flow of drink to young people.

Nuisance caused by off-road motorcycles has been targeted at both stations in the last quarter, with 66 warning notices issued to owners and riders.
