BREXIT Party leader Nigel Farage is calling on former Labour voters to trust in his party to deliver Brexit.

Mr Farage was in Seaham today to support Easington Brexit Party candidate Julie Maughan and talk to people about issues affecting their constituency.

He spoke to drinkers at The Hat And Feathers pub and said he had seen a change in attitudes from generations of Labour voters.

The Northern Echo:

Mr Farage said: “The people here have been promised Brexit will be delivered by the Labour party – who has dominated areas like this since the end of the First World War but people are angry and feel this is a breach of promise and a breach of trust.

“We are the only people who can beat Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour so whether you are Labour or Conservative we are the guys to vote for if you want a true voice of Brexit in the House of Commons. We will beat Corbyn and make sure Boris Johnson keeps his promise.

“We’d like to give a direct appeal to people who voted for Brexit as we will get this job done properly. The Conservatives have never won here and will never win here but we have a chance and we are the challenger.”

The Easington constituency voted by 65.96 per cent to leave the EU in 2016’s referendum and has been a Labour stronghold since 1922.

Brexit candidate Mrs Maughan said she hopes to take the seat from Labour and bring regeneration to the area.

The Northern Echo:

She said: “We witnessed the mines close and since there has been no regeneration or investment so a lot of the ex-mining villages have been left to rot.

“We occupy a massive stretch of the North-East coastline, our fishing industry has been decimated so we would like to regenerate the fishing industry and create free ports to bring jobs back to the region.”
