A MAN has been killed in a motorbike crash near Chester-le-Street, County Durham.
Michael Murray, 40, was riding a Suzuki GSXR 750 on the B1284 near Lumley Thicks when he was killed, shortly after 3.30pm yesterday.
Mr Murray is thought to have been overtaking three cars, the first of which was waiting to turn right.
It appears he braked hard, lost control and collided with a Nissan Almera and a Ford Fiesta travelling in the opposite direction.
Mr Murray, from Morton Grange Terrace, in Fencehouses, suffered serious head and internal injuries.
He was taken by to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, by air ambulance but died in the intensive therapy unit early this morning.
No-one else was injured and no other vehicles were seriously damaged.
The B1284 was closed from 3.45pm to 6.30pm.
Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the crash to call their accident investigation team on 0191-375-2159.
